Removable media refers to storage media which is designed to be removed from the computer without powering the computer off.

Some types of removable media are designed to be read by removable readers and drives. Some removable media readers and drives are integrated into computers. Examples include:

  • Blu ray discs, DVDs and CDs
  • Memory card e.g Compact Flash card, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick
  • Floppy disks and Zip disks

Removable media may also refer to some removable storage devices, when they are used to transport or store data. Examples include:

  • USB Flash drive
  • External hard disk

It is fairly common that users may face data loss situations when using such removable device and warrants a data recovery service. These includes:

  • File system corruption
  • Accidental deletion
  • Accidental dropping ( especially External hard disk ), vibration or external impact when power is connected and drives becomes inaccessible
  • Power surge
  • Water spill
